Nightscapes, waterfalls and landscapes are what Pearson concentrates on for his cabin photography.
One could say Scott Pearson’s muse is Lake Superior. He grew up in Duluth, Minn., just a few blocks from the lake, and as a kid would spend hours combing the rocky shorelines for agates and other interesting artifacts. He’s lived the majority of his life within a couple hours drive of Lake Superior in locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and always felt the urge to visit the lake’s shore as often as possible. While Pearson enjoys fishing, hiking, cross-country skiing and other outdoor activities in the Upper Midwest, landscape photography has always appealed to him. His occupation in natural resource management introduced him to new landscapes and outdoor settings that were inspirational to him and helped shape how he viewed nature. But, it was only recently that he seriously pursued photography.

Seven years ago, Pearson bit the bullet and jumped into the realm of DSLR photography, and the learning curve, while enjoyable, was quite steep. He studied and read about equipment, techniques, composition and photo post-processing and began his photography journey. “An enjoyable aspect for me is that the learning never really stops in photography,” Pearson says. “Through trial and error, I’m always discovering new ways to make photographs and improve my compositions.”
Nightscapes, waterfalls and landscapes are what Pearson concentrates on. “I also enjoy photographing macro and vintage subjects,” he says. “What I find fascinating about photography near Lake Superior is that the conditions are always changing and I have to constantly react to those changes.” Pearson finds that he’s just as interested in printing and framing of his photos as he is taking them. “That’s another unexpected and pleasant result of my photographic journey,” he says. “I’m always experimenting with mat colors and combinations, and I soon hope to be making my own frames.”
