While some birds eat from a varied menu, the American goldfinch is chiefly a seed-eater. Niger thistle seed offered in tube feeders is a surefire draw for this lively gold beauty. (Females are olive-green.) Millet and black oil sunflower seeds are also popular foods. The goldfinch eats seeds from perennials, such as coneflower, annuals, such as cosmos, and even veggies, such as lettuce. And best of all? Dandelion, ragweed and other weed seeds are special favorites!

Pro-Tip

Grow coneflowers and leave them standing for tasty seed snacks.
