Q: Do you know where I can buy Hemlock log slabs? The 100-year-old slabs that side the outside of my cabin in New York are rotting away.

A: Contacting a sawmill in your area would be a good first step. Slabs – the outside pieces of a log – are created when a log is squared, so a sawmill may already have some on hand. Or, since hemlock is native to New York, you might find a place close by that can mill your logs for you. If none of the local mills can help, expand your search to other states in the greater northeast region.
