In the May 2005 issue of Cabin Life, we ran a question from Claude in Foxborough, Mass., who was looking for solutions to his drafty windows. Specifically, he was looking for a metal track to provide a snug fit for his windows and for a window caulk that can be applied for the winter and peeled off in the spring. We were unable to locate either product.
Since that question ran, we’ve heard from a few Cabin Life readers who have come to the rescue.
On the window channels: David Brunk from Kingston, N.Y., called to share his source. Quaker City Manufacturing Co. out of Folcroft, Penn., makes a product called WindowRenu that consists of aluminum tracks for double-hung wooden windows to slide in. David said he replaced 20 windows in one weekend on his 1880 house using this product. More info at www.windowrenu.com.
On the removable caulk: Alec Donaldson says he has used Seal ’N’ Peel?for years. The specialty caulk is marketed by DAP, whose products are available at many hardware and home improvement stores. To find a retailer near you, call (800) 327-3339 or go to www.dap.com.
