Any outdoor barbeque starts with a few main ingredients: great company and good food. But when you use a homemade seasoning, you can turn an ordinary meal into a memorable occasion that family and friends will savor. Try this all-purpose grill seasoning at your next cookout. The smoked paprika adds a unique flavor perfect for barbequed chicken or seafood, and make sure to share! Giving a homemade spice blend as a gift for the holidays will remind family and friends of the wonderful time they had at your cabin barbeque. Makes 1 cup.
½ cup smoked paprika
3 tablespoons kosher salt
4 teaspoons garlic powder
4 teaspoons onion salt
4 teaspoons dried parsley
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
2 teaspoons dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried mustard
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1. In a small mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix them thoroughly.
2. Divide spice mixture into 4 equal parts, and place into decorative containers if you are giving it as a gift. Small bottles, mason jars and other clear canisters work great, and they show the beautiful red and green colors of the mixture. Add a customized label for each container or a few ornaments or jingle bells with a ribbon for a little extra flair.
3. Sprinkle seasoning on chicken or seafood and marinate for 10–15 minutes with a little olive oil.
4. Grill chicken or seafood and finish with a squeeze of lemon. Enjoy! Spices will remain fresh for up to 6 months.
