From the Editor: Wanted: Your Photos

Here at Kalmbach Publishing Co., we recently had the great pleasure to sit down with a dozen of our Cabin Life subscribers to hear about their personal experiences of owning a cabin, cottage, lakehome or camp and to get their feedback about this magazine. It’s always fun hearing from people with whom you share a passion, and cabiners sure are one passionate bunch!

This diverse group that came together owns cabins in eight states, including Alaska, Maine and Alabama. That comes as no surprise, because Cabin Life has subscribers across the entire U.S., plus Canada and beyond.

But these cabin enthusiasts have a lot in common. For starters, they share a strong sense of community. A few readers said their cabins are a focal point for family gatherings. Most agreed that they enjoy a “rural friendliness” in their cabin areas, where they are tied together with their neighbors by their common interest in the outdoors. One person went so far as to say that being part of the cabin lifestyle is “like being a part of a secret club.”

I believe it’s that sense of community that makes our reader-submitted “My Cabin” stories so popular. Be sure to check out this month’s articles from cabin owners in Minnesota and Ontario (see pages 22 and 23 of the December 2014 issue).
