Often in life, there’s no staying the same. You either work at improving, or you backslide. Maybe it has something to do with the physics principal of entropy that states that the universe tends toward disorder. Examples of this are everywhere: the kitchen junk drawer, an angler’s tackle box, my desk at work … But I digress.
Publishing magazines definitely requires editors to continually push creative boundaries and innovate. In surveys, focus groups and conversations at places like the Lake Home & Cabin Shows, we’ve asked you what you like about Cabin Life and how we can make it better.
In response to your positive feedback, we’re keeping most of your magazine the same. But we’ve also made some improvements that we’re very excited about. You told us you love small cabins, so the February 2015 issue is packed with them, including an eight-page bonus feature on p. 24.
And in every issue, we’re adding two brand new departments. “Cabinology 101” is a column written by Dale Mulfinger, FAIA. A longtime friend to Cabin Life and a frequent contributor, Dale is an architect, book author and public speaker who has even taught college courses on cabin design. How did he come to be known as the “Cabinologist?” Read about it at the end of his column on window design, which starts on p. 20.
And on p. 64, you’ll find “Gather ’Round,” a new department about special cabin gatherings and traditions, like this issue’s story, “Sister Bonding Time.” (I can’t wait to try the brunch recipe!)
If you’re going to be at any of the Midwest’s Lake Home & Cabin Shows in 2015 (see locations and dates on p. 5), please talk to us there. We love chatting with our readers!
