From the Editor: Cabin Time

Here in the Cabin Life offices, we work hard to use proper grammar and spelling … most of the time. I must confess, though, that we have made up a couple words, and we’re quite fond of them: “cabiny” and “cabiner.” Since you are a cabiner who is fond of cabiny things, I’m guessing you understand these words quite well.

Editorial Assistant Emily Hare is very good at finding cabiny things to put in the “From the Deck” section of every issue – from “Cool Stuff” to “Fun Festivals in Cabin Country” to “Cabin Art.”

Assistant Editor Julie Kuczynski and I strive to develop feature stories that you cabiners will find informative, helpful and inspirational. In the August 2015 issue, for instance, you may notice a theme of ideas for easy living. We want to help you:

• Reduce stress when a crowd invades your place for the weekend – Who doesn’t want less stress? See “Inviting & Unique Sleeping Spaces” (p. 34) and “Big Group at the Cabin” (p. 56).
• Build a small cabin so you have less to maintain and clean – Less cleaning? That’s an idea we can all get behind! Read “The Small Cabin: An Intimate Place” (p. 22).

• Protect your property – See “Deterring Theft & Vandalism” (p. 44). 
• Impress your crew with your boating skills – Hey, we all want to look like a hero on the water. Refresh your knowledge with “Quick Study: Docking Your Boat” (p. 50).
