Makes 8 cocktails (about 9 cups)

Total time: 10 minutes + simmering

Ingredients:

  • 4 each Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples, chopped
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • Juice from ½ an orange
  • 1 ½ tsp. whole allspice
  • 1 knob ginger (1-inch), peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise, seeds scraped
  • ¾ tsp. whole cloves
  • 8 cups water
  • 6 oz. Fireball whisky

Instructions:

  1. Place apples, brown sugar, orange juice, allspice, ginger, vanilla bean, and cloves in a pot; add water and heat to a boil over medium-high. Reduce heat to low; simmer cider, covered, 1 hour.
  2. Mash apples with a potato masher until crushed; simmer, uncovered, 1 hour more.
  3. Strain cider through a fine-mesh sieve, or cheesecloth, into a pitcher or pot. Stir whisky into cider and serve warm.
