A finalist in the 2015 Howie Awards from Houseplans (houseplans.com), this farm- house-style bath house and kitchen was designed by Richardson Architects (richard- sonarchitects.com) in Mill Valley, Calif. The building is meant to serve a large group of children who travel to the coastal northern California dairy farm property for a family summer camp, where they sleep in nearby platform tents. The bath house offers two shower stalls, two toilet stalls, a kitchenette and a bedroom – all wrapped up in a whimsical 388-square-foot package.
The exterior’s charm is heightened by a classic farmhouse galvanized metal roof and a porch that wraps around the side and front, adding another 200 square feet of living space. Sealed board-and-batten siding in white is another nod to traditional rural architecture. On one exterior wall, a large chalkboard appeals to young artists in residence. Inside, plenty of storage is provided for towels and other necessities. A sink and dishwasher make for easy cleanup.

The plans for this bath house, for sale through Houseplans, would make a perfect pool house or could be easily modified for a bunkroom, in-law suite or guest cottage. The space originally allotted to the double showers and toilets could be used instead for a full bath.
