The Best Solution for Skunk Spray

If you or anyone close to you gets sprayed by a cornered skunk, here’s a stink remedy that works much better than the old tomato-juice-and-time method.

Peter Krebaum, a chemist, came up with The Skunk Remedy Recipe and decided to distribute it for free because he’s apparently a really nice guy. The treatment works by neutralizing the chemical compounds present in skunk spray called thiols. Here's what to do:

  • In a plastic bucket, mix well 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 to 2 teaspoons liquid soap.

  • Wash the pet (or person) promptly and thoroughly.

  • Leave the solution on for about five minutes or until the odor is gone. Keep the solution out of the eyes, and if you have any cuts on your hands, wear gloves – it stings.

  • After washing, thoroughly rinse with running water.

  • Pour the spent solution down the drain with running water. Never store the solution in a closed bottle, sprayer, etc. Pressure will build up until the container bursts.
