A hybrid is a type of building that combines two or more construction methods, like log, timber-frame and conventional stud-frame building. In addition to wood, other popular materials in hybrid cabins include stone, glass, shake shingles and reclaimed siding. Hybrid construction allows more options for how a cabin will look – inside and out.
Additionally, the cost of a hybrid home can also be lower because higher-priced logs or heavy wood timbers can be used in some featured areas of the home (a great room, for instance), and more economical stud-frame construction can be used in areas of the home that are less public or are strictly utilitarian.
