The Perfect Classic American Log Cabin

A beautiful classic log cabin with just the right amount of rustic touch.

Written by Janice Brewster

Log walls, wood beams and trusses, a soaring stone replace ... the Bierman log cabin from Timberhaven Log and Timber Homes (timber- havenloghomes.com) in Middleburg, Penn., has it all. It’s also a hit with log home lovers, winning a Readers’ Choice Best Home award from Log Home Living magazine, 2017. It was also popular with Cabin Living readers when it was previously featured in this magazine.

Like many log cabins, the home started with a stock plan – Timberhaven’s 1,300-square-foot Valley View 1, which features three bedrooms, two baths and an open floor plan. From there, the home- owner made several customizations: adding a long front porch, opening the living and dining areas to each other, including a walkout basement and moving the master suite to the second floor.

The floor-to-ceiling stone replace anchors the great room area, which features an eye-grabbing king post truss – set off in dark stain. Open white-pine stairs lead to a loft area and the master suite. Outside, another timber truss accents the gable roof overhang and provides sheltered outdoor space to entertain. And the party can easily spill over to a large built-in outdoor replace and patio area.

The interior of the lower level is lined with rough barnwood siding and features a wood-burning stove and heavy wood posts and beams. Outside, the ground-level walls are faced with stone to tie into stone landscaping on the site.
