It reminds onlookers of a ship’s wheelhouse, the enclosed area where one would steer a ship. It has 360° views from the observatory, a square shape, and you can even add a ship’s wheel on the balcony to complete the look. The round window on the front of the cottage is a nod to a ship’s wheel and adds a little whimsy to the simple straight lines of the rest of the place.

The Wheelhouse features traditional pine timber-framing that forms the entire structure, walls made of R30 Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), and a R38 SIP roof.
