1 cup butter
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon salt
2½ cups sifted flour
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Cream butter and sugar together. Beat in egg. Add remaining ingredients, and mix until well blended. Chill dough 3–4 hours.
2. Preheat oven to 350 F. Roll dough ¼ inch thick, and cut. Bake cutouts on ungreased cookie sheets 8–10 minutes or until barely colored. Remove cookies from cookie sheets and cool on wire racks.
Frosting:
Makes 1/3 cup
INGREDIENTS
¾ cup confectioner’s sugar (sifted)
1 tablespoon butter (melted)
1 tablespoon milk
½ teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon lemon juice
INSTRUCTIONS
Combine all ingredients and beat until smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
