If small houses make you think of Spartan living, the Marshal plan from Timberbuilt (timberbuilt.com) will change your mind. Although, at under 2,000 square feet, the home may sound small, it’s filled to the brim with amenities that cabin lovers want – making it a sure thing in the 2015 Timber Home Living Readers’ Choice Awards.
Supported by the beauty of a traditional wood timber frame, the home offers two bedrooms and two baths, a mudroom with plenty of storage, an open oor plan and a generous rst- oor master suite with a luxury bathroom and walk-in closet. Outside, wood trim and a high gable peak create a home with traditional appeal. The exterior walls are made of structural insulated panels (SIPs) to create a weathertight, energy-ef cient envelope around the timber frame.
TimberBuilt, located in North Collins, N.Y., offers the plan in two versions – one with a front entry and another with a side entry. Two replaces, a loft reading nook or an exposed brick wall in the dining area are optional with the plans. TimberBuilt, like many timber frame producers, designs the homes, cuts all the timbers for the frame and erects the frame on-site. TimberBuilt also encloses the frame with SIPs, leaving the soaring frame exposed on the interior. Typically, a local general contractor or builder is responsible for building the foundation and finishing out the home’s interior and exterior.
