This design offers a cozy, eco-friendly haven that can power itself. Using passive solar design and high-performance environmental controls, it has a variety of lifestyle options at an affordable cost, with the prospect of zero lifetime energy costs.

In the Sun Belt, the design can achieve true net-zero energy performance, powering itself (and a hybrid vehicle) with rooftop solar panels. For colder climes, reliable backup heat from a wood, pellet or propane-heating unit can assist the economical heat pumps to ensure comfort. In temperate seasons, large windows and wind-capturing screens maximize natural cross-ventilation, while skylights wash the interior with natural light.

Regardless of site characteristics, options such as dual entryways, indoor/outdoor rooms and windows throughout provide unlimited enjoyment of the natural world around you.

The retreat offers families mindful, long-term access to rejuvenation in nature at potentially the cost of an RV, with the added benefit of minimal operational costs over a lifetime.
