1. Crush 2 tablespoons roughly chopped mint leaves in the bottom of a 10-ounce cocktail glass.
2. Add 11/2 ounces white rum.
3. Add 11/2 tablespoons fresh lime juice and 2 tablespoons sugar and stir until dissolved.
4. Fill glass with crushed ice and add club soda. Stir. Garnish with fresh sugar cane or a mint sprig.
