From the Editor: That One Thing

What's your favorite activity at your cottage, cabin, lakehome or camp?

Whenever we interview vacation home owners, we ask them, “What do you like to do at your place?" It’s a natural question to ask because the joy of cabin, cottage or camp living comes not from the structure, it comes from our favorite activities.

For my wife, Carol, and me, our No. 1 cabin pastime – other than connecting with our other family members – is swimming. For my son Loren and his wife, Krysta, it’s reading a book in the hammock. My son Cole loves wakeboarding. For my mom and dad, it was always water-skiing. For my father-in-law, it’s walleye fishing. My mother-in-law adores gathering her large family for delicious meals.

In the December 2013 issue of Cabin Life, you’ll visit an Arizona cabin owned by the late American humorist Erma Bombeck and her husband, Bill. The Bombecks bought their place so their family could enjoy it for winter ski trips and holiday retreats.

You’ll also visit a Minnesota log home that’s centered on a love of music; the home actually doubles as a cozy concert venue for a musician.

And be sure to check out Mary Lou White’s place in New Hampshire. She shares, “I love our cabin because it gives us a chance to spend time with family and friends, and it is a place for the grandchildren to enjoy for years to come.”

Thank you for sharing, Mary Lou. I think that all cabin lovers can agree with that sentiment.
