One of the best things about remote cabins, cottages, camps and lakehomes is that they are never far from a good wilderness path. When you get the itch to hit the trail, there are plenty of options for hiking, biking and riding ATVs or other off-road vehicles (ORVs). Here are just a few worthy ATV/ORV trails found in the U.S.
Bighorn National Forest, Wyo.
The diverse landscape of the west is on display here, with mountain views and grasslands aplenty. You may also spot some wildlife.
Blacktail Wild Bill Trail System, Mont.
While it may be a short route (23 miles), this is a “great trail for ATVs, side-by-sides and Jeeps,” says Cabin Life Facebook follower Laurie Happ.
Hatfield & McCoy Trails, W. Va.
If you’re up for a bit of a challenge, this trail system has more than 600 miles of off-road routes that are open year-round to ATVs, UTVs and dirt bikes.
Little O Trail, Mich.
This trail was recommended by Cabin Life Facebook follower Lorie Kiebach, who says it’s great for avid ATV riders and Jeepsters. The system includes scramble areas and several bridge crossings.
Oregon Dunes, Ore.
Formed by the forces of wind, water and time, this expanse of coastal sand dunes is the largest in North America.
Paiute Trail, Utah
This loop system is an ATV rider’s dream, and it would take weeks to travel it all. It passes through multiple towns and features breathtaking scenery.
Ride Royal Blue Resort, Tenn.
From family-friendly flat terrain to the thrilling steep climbs and marvelous mud holes, this system of 600-plus miles has it all.
Soo Line North, Minn.
Portions of this heavily wooded trail run through the Chippewa National Forest, and there are several large bogs along the route.
St. Joe State Park, Mo.
A plethora of sand flats and wooded trails offer the opportunity to run wild. Just be sure to bring a helmet and a safety flag.
Taylor Park, Colo.
Pitch a tent or rent a cabin, then view the mountains of Colorado by riding a different trail every day for a week. What could be better?
